Are you looking for a tight and toned tummy? Are crunches and planks just not getting the job done? Abdominal liposuction may be just what you are looking for. The abdominal area is the most common area that is treated by liposuction techniques for women and men.
The abdomen is prone to stubborn excess fat and is the most targeted area for liposuction. Most fitness experts will agree that to lose abdominal fat, overall body mass index (BMI) will need to decrease. The challenge is that excess fat often still remains in the skin even after weight loss because of the location.
Factors affecting the success of lipo include location/amount of fat, history of weight loss or gain, and any history of pregnancy. Prior obesity followed by weight loss produces more fibrous fat deposits, making liposuction more difficult to perform. There may also be an accompanying looseness of the skin that can affect the appearance of the area.
*Actual patient – Individual results may vary
Where the abdominal fat is located is important to the success of the liposuction procedure. This fat can occur at two levels — deep and superficial. Superficial-level fat is found below the skin but above the abdominal muscles. Superficial fat is also called subcutaneous fat. This type of fat can be removed by liposuction. Deep fat is located inside the abdominal cavity. It is also called visceral fat. This type of fat cannot be removed using lipo because it is under muscles and tissue that prevent its removal. This fat can only be reduced through diet and exercise. Most patients have more superficial fat than deeper fat, so these individuals will see an improvement in the appearance of the abdomen through liposuction.
Pregnancy tends to stretch the muscles in the abdomen, causing it to bulge. This curvature of the muscles can affect the look of the abdominal silhouette before and even after lipo. However, the majority of patients are ultimately very satisfied with their liposuction results and do not require an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck. Successful liposuction is generally determined by how happy the patient is with the results. The patient’s opinion of the results depends on expectations and the preoperative condition, and the surgeon’s technique and skills.
Age is not an important factor in the success of lipo. Some of the most satisfied patients are women older than 60 years old. In healthy older women, liposuction can help improve — with little discomfort or risk — an obese abdomen. Gender does play a factor, as women have less fibrous fat and more soft fat, making liposuction easier to do.
The Solution
Dr. Wright understands the different types of fat distributed throughout the body and is able to safely and effectively suction the fat to reveal a sculpted, sexy, and attractive mid-section in both men and women.
Liposuction using the tumescent technique safely and effectively removes fat cells permanently through tiny punctures (the size of a ball-point pen tip). Through these punctures, micro-cannulas are inserted into the subcutaneous fat layers, which allows for optimal fat cell removal. Patients are awake during the procedure, which allows Dr. Wright to re-position the patient to ensure symmetry.
Our Abdominal Tumescent Liposuction Technique
The first step to getting the shape you desire is to schedule a free consultation with Dr. Wright. We’ll discuss your medical history, goals and expectations, and what to expect during the procedure.
During the tumescent liposuction procedure, we use smaller microcannulas. While the use of these instruments requires more time to complete the procedure, there is less soreness, and better, smoother, more precise results. The small incisions, which will heal quickly, are left open to allow greater draining of the tumescent fluid.
After Abdominal Liposuction
Patients do not usually require anything stronger than over-the-counter pain medication because of the tumescent local anesthesia effects that can last up to 18 hours after the procedure. Patients will also wear a compression garment that will allow the improvements to be visible. During the next several days and after the fluid drainage stops, there is an onset of some swelling that will decrease in the following weeks.
There will be no restrictions on physical activity and patients are told not to stay in bed, but to walk around and even take a short walk the evening of their procedure. Patients should shower at least once or twice a day starting the day after the procedure.

Risks of Abdominal Liposuction
Prior to liposuction, the patient will be evaluated to determine if there are any health issues that could increase the risk of complications. These issues can include:
- Abdominal hernia, increase the risks of accidental penetration of the abdominal cavity by the cannula. The hernia should be surgically repaired before considering liposuction.
- Previous Abdominal liposuction can cause scaring or fibrosis, making a second liposuction procedure more difficult.
- Performing other procedures under general anesthesia in conjunction with liposuction increases the possibility of surgical complications. Multiple procedures can also lead to a prolonged recovery period in bed, raising the risk of blood clots in the lung.
- Maximum fat removal should not be the goal but rather provide a natural-looking appearance.
Other risks that can affect the safety and results of abdominal liposuction include previous abdominal surgery, radiation therapy, and laparoscopic procedures.

Abdominal Liposuction FAQs
Answer
Yes, there are less invasive options to a Tummy Tuck for slimming your belly. Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty is by nature an open or” invasive” surgery. A tummy tuck requires a large incision and leaves a large scar. Liposuction can remove the fat in a much less invasive manner, However, liposuction does not give as much skin tightening as tummy tuck [liposuction without skin tightening give about a third of the skin tightening of a tummy tuck]. Liposuction combined with skin tightening such as BodyTight and or Renuvion can give as much of 2/3 of the skin tightening of an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck. Most people can have good results with the less invasive liposuction procedure often combined with skin tightening, but some people need an open surgical tummy tuck to get the results they want. I recommend consulting with a surgeon to determine what is the best options are for you.
Answer
Mini or partial Tummy tucks usually cost a bit less than tummy tuck which cost ranges in the lower 5,000- to the upper end of 13,000. The lower-end prices for a tummy tuck are seen in lower cost areas of the country or in foreign countries and or with less experienced surgeons with a less reliable result. Another option that reduces a stomach bulge is liposuction which costs a good bit less than a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. Liposuction removes fat, however, it does not give much skin tightening as a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. Liposuction has a much easier recovery, does not leave a large scar, and has a much lower risk of complications. Liposuction combined with skin tightening cost a bit more than regular liposuction, however, it can give nearly the skin tightening abdominoplasty. All three of these procedures can be good options for the right candidates, I recommend consulting with a surgeon who has a reputation for candor and straight talk to determine what is the best option for you.
