Calf liposuction and ankle liposuction are not the most common areas requested for liposuction; however, lipoplasty of the legs and ankles is becoming increasingly popular. Previously, it was a procedure that had many different complications and produced less than satisfactory results. Currently; however, newer techniques have not only provided better results, but come with fewer risks and complications.
Liposuction or lipoplasty of the calf and ankles can provide you with more shapely calves and ankles to give a slimmer, more tapered look.
Many people have a propensity to accumulate fat in the ankles and calves. However, that fat accumulation can make the legs look out of proportion to the rest of the body.
A good candidate for liposuction of the calf and ankle areas has “pinchable” fat in areas to be liposuctioned. Often patients’ legs are classified as circumferential or localized heavy legs. With the circumferential type, fat deposits are not well defined overall and the leg is considered fat. In the localized type, the lower calves and ankles will have definite bulges, leading to a tubular-appearing leg.
Ankle and Calf Liposuction Procedure
Leg contouring can provide a significant improvement in the shape of your lower legs. This procedure is done using a tumescent liposuction procedure.
First, a tumescent anesthesia is administered to the area, which will numb the treatment area. This solution will also loosen up the fat deposits that will be removed. Next, tiny microcannulas are used to gently suction away the fat around the ankles and/or calves. During the procedure, you are awake, and the doctor may guide you to move so that the results will be well balanced.
After the calf liposuction procedure, you will need to wear compression stockings or boots. You should also make sure that you elevate your legs for about the first week after the procedure.
There are relatively few risks or complications that may arise during or after the procedure, but may include hyperpigmentation and telangiectasia.
