Natural Dermatitis Treatments: What You Can Do to Help Alleviate Dermatitis?

Dermatitis is a general term that refers to an inflammation of the skin. This inflammation can have different types, such as atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis and others. Dermatitis symptoms can include redness, swelling, itching and burning. In more severe cases, you can experience blisters, crusting, and/or scaling.

How to Treat Dermatitis?

There a several natural or home remedies that can provide some relief from the symptoms. For many of these treatments, you may already have the ingredients in your home.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has been found to relieve itchiness and inflammation. Dilute the vinegar with water using a one-to-one ratio and apply to the affected areas. Let it sit for approximately a half hour, then rinse.

Aloe Vera

As you know, aloe vera is an effective way to sooth the skin, and dermatitis is no exception. Just apply the gel to the affected area several times a day. You can even drink aloe vera juice to give your skin a healthy glow.

Oatmeal Baths

Oatmeal baths can treat a number of skin irritations and the subsequent symptoms. Just mix powdered oatmeal in a lukewarm bath. Enjoy a 15 to 20 minute soak each day. This remedy should quickly soothe many of the symptoms of dermatitis.

Honey

Honey has been shown to reduce inflammation of the skin. Additionally, it also has antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Simply mix equal parts of raw honey, olive oil, and beeswax. Use a double boiler to gently warm the mixture. After letting it cool a bit, apply to the area and leave it on for several hours. In a few weeks of daily application, you should notice an improvement.

Medical Treatments

In cases of severe dermatitis, medical treatment may be necessary. Depending upon the case, treatments can include prescription topical lotions and creams or oral medications.

You should seek medical treatment if your condition doesn’t relieve itself within a short period of time or if it worries you. A physician should be able to diagnose exactly what is causing your dermatitis condition and then provide the best treatment path.

Says Dr. Wright, “Dermatitis can have a number of causes. If you are suffering from symptoms, we can help you determine the cause, as well as providing treatment to help alleviate the symptoms.”
