Water Lipo vs Laser Liposuction: What are the Differences?

There are many different types of liposuction that can be used to provide a more contoured and sleek profile. You may have heard of several of them; however, the main objective of all is to provide that slimming effect.

You may be wondering about the difference between two main types of liposuction techniques: laser liposuction and water jet liposuction. To understand the difference, you need to understand the basics of liposuction. Liposuction procedures use different techniques to loosen and remove excess fat through a small cannula via suction.

Water Lipo: Water Jet Assisted Liposuction

With water lipo, jets of water or saline are used to essentially loosen up the fat that is then washed/suctioned away. A tube is inserted in the treatment area, and the jets of water/saline are used to break up the fat. This technique can be used to break through dense tissues. It is often used in lipedema cases to break off the accumulated fat for removal. Water assisted liposuction is also a preferred liposuction method for fat transfer augmentation procedures, as there is less damage to the fat that is being removed.

Laser Assisted Liposuction

With laser assisted liposuction, laser energy is applied to the treatment area to essentially melt and loosen the fat, which is then suctioned away. Laser liposuction can be beneficial in cases where there is fibrous fat, as the laser energy makes it easier to loosen this type of fat. Also, laser liposuction can have skin tightening effects, as the laser energy can boost collagen production and contract the skin.

Choose the Right Doctor for Your Procedure

As you can see, the end result is essentially the same with either type of procedure no matter if you use laser or water lipo. It is important to seek the advice of a knowledgeable cosmetic surgeon such as Dr. Wright.

Says Dr. Wright, “Each individual has differing needs and situations, so there is no one single liposuction procedure that will work on everyone. It is important that the best procedure is chosen for your individual case.”

At St. Louis Liposuction Center, we consult with each individual to determine their desired results as well as their individual needs. We want to ensure that they receive the treatment and procedure that will give them the best results.
