Women Seeking Smaller Increase in Breast Size

Breast augmentation is the most popular cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States. According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 279,000 women underwent breast augmentation in 2015.

However, it is interesting to note that many women are not seeking to look like the iconic Playboy Bunny nor the Baywatch girls of the beach look. Increasingly, women today are foregoing the extra large look for a more natural look.

Physicians have long understood that large-breasted women can suffer from neck pain or back aches, which may be one of the reasons for women seeking smaller augmentation sizes. There has also been an increase in women seeking breast reductions, and some are even seeking implant removal or replacements for smaller sizes.

Aside from the obvious reason that having a smaller cup size can result in fewer issues, clothing may fit better. Alternatively, having too small of a breast size can also result in a poorer fit. Today’s fashion trends are also favoring a look that requires women to go braless. If you have larger breasts, these fashions just may not look or feel as good as they should.

Increasingly, surgeons are seeing patients who are asking for a smaller increase when undergoing breast augmentation. Additionally, women are looking for augmentation procedures that will not result in an artificial look or feel that often accompanies implant surgery. Also, many women do not want to risk the possible complications that may come with implants, such as shifting, rupturing or other such side effects.

Fat Transfer Augmentation as an Alternative

Dr. Thomas Wright, Medical Director of Laser Lipo and Vein Center says, “We have a terrific option available for those women seeking augmentation that will produce a more natural look and feel — fat transfer.”

Fat transfer augmentation is a procedure that actually transfers fat from one part of the body that has excess fat, to the breasts. The fat is harvested using a gentle liposuction procedure. This provides the added benefit of smoothing and contouring the harvest area.

This harvested fat is then processed and separated, with the treated fat cells being injected into the breasts to add volume. Because the patient’s own fat is being used rather than an artificial implant, the look and feel is far more natural looking. In addition, the risk of rejection and/or allergic reaction are eliminated, as the patient’s own cells are being used.
